What the labels mean

Each amiibo feature is labelled with whether the game saves data to the amiibo, and what the amiibo gets you. Game pages show every label. Figure pages show only Read+Write and the two exclusive ones.

  • Read-only The game only reads the amiibo; nothing is saved to it.
  • Read+Write The game also saves data to the amiibo. An amiibo holds save data for one game at a time.
  • Exclusive unlock Tap once and keep it forever; there's no other way to get it.
  • Exclusive play Only possible with the amiibo, which is needed each time (a fighter, partner, playable character, or mode); nothing is kept.
  • Early unlock Tap once and keep it forever; the game also gives it without amiibo, later or another way.
  • Bonus Things that get used up or are random (items, coins, materials, daily gifts), or a convenience like a shortcut.
  • Save & share The amiibo saves your own data, like designs, dungeons, loadouts, or progress, to load later, in another copy of the game, or in another game.
